Riddles

Here are some riddles for you to work out.

 

1) Alive without breath,

             As cold as death;

             Never thirsty, ever drinking,

             All in mail never clinking.

2) What has roots as nobody sees,

     Is taller than trees,

     Up up it goes,

     And yet never grows.

3) Thirty white horses on a red hill,

     First they chomp,

     Then they stomp,

     Then they stand still.

4)  Voiceless cries,

      Wingless flutters,

      Toothless bites,

      Mouthless mutters

5)  An eye on a blue face

       Saw an eye on a green face

      “That eye looks like to this eye”

       Said the first eye

       “ But in a high place

       Not in a low place.”

6)  Cannot be seen, cannot be felt,

      Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.

      It lies behind stars and under hills,

      And empty holes it fills;

      It comes first and follows after,

      Ends life, kills laughter.

7)  A box without hinges,

      Key or lid,

      Yet golden treasures

       Inside it hid.

8)   This thing all things devours,

       Birds, beast, trees, flowers;

        Gnaws iron, bite steel;

        Grind hard stones to meal;

        Slays king, run town,

        And beats high mountains down.
